"Talangka"

So,

I was really fascinated about this picture of a teenage boy who gave money to a beggar kid for food in a fast food restaurant, because we can rarely see such good deed from teenagers nowadays.

The teenage boy saw this kid who was trying to come inside the fast food chain but the security guard won't let him in because of the way the kid looks, now I'm not trying to make manong guard look like the villain in this story, it's his job to keep the customer's safety and order inside the establishment that's why he made a judgment call to not let the kid in.

However, the kid found a subtle way to get in and he succeeded, manong guard didn't notice him and he then asked customers for food

The teenage boy saw him and he then continued to play with his Ipad and waited til the kid notice because he knew that the kid will watch him play.

Of course a kid, beggar or not will be amused with these gadgets and the teenage boy let the kid watch him and manong guard finally noticed the kid managed to slip in the establishment and manong guard wanted him out but the teenage boy gave the kid a 100 peso bill and asked him to buy food and sort of "yelled" at him asking him "where was he and where's mom?" making it look like they were brothers, then he told manong guard right away that the kid was his little brother.

It was good til' I read some of the comments by our very own countrymen.

Some appreciated the good deed while others, had their "other" opinions about it.

My take on this was this is a very good example of what teenagers should be and everyone as well, those who are on the top must help those who are struggling to climb the teenage boy showed it to people by posting it on social media which is a good way to use it.

But some, really had narrow minded insights about how to be a "good public servant".

People were questioning WHY he should post it, WHY he should take a picture of it

Credit goes to the rightful owner
To be fair, he never took a picture WHILE he was doing it, but some really are resourceful enough to find negativity about something that's inspiring, I never argue in social media (well, unless it's about LeBron James  or Messi Vs Ronaldo) but I made an exception with this one because 1) I never realized how worst the crab mentality we Filipinos have 2) I just can't let people bash a RARE good deed like this one and 3) there was an old dude, older than my dad maybe in his late 50s who was trying to QUESTION a TEENAGER who was HELPING a HUNGRY POOR KID because he thought they were compromising manong guard's job by letting the kid inside the establishment.

I hate crab mentality(I like crabs tho) but this Filipino trait has gotten worse, the "Talangka" must be stopped, not an easy task but worth trying. It is true that we have the "bayanihan spirit" but we Filipinos are so good at exploiting the wrongs in the rights that whenever we do something good, someone, somewhere will find ways to bring that bayanihan spirit down and cause separation.

Even in calamities (sigh)

Crabs are not only in the ocean, this "Talangka" mentality we have will probably not end in my lifetime but I encourage you teenage boy and the others to continue doing good deeds, helping our poor countrymen in any way, big or small don't matter, THIS COUNTRY NEEDS YOU, THE WORLD NEEDS YOU.

Canton kayo dyan!

Walang sahog, mamantika, at masyadong plain
